Tim Russert, host of NBC’s “Meet The Press” sadly died Friday from a heart attack while working on this weekend’s material. He was survived by his son, wife, and big Russ (dad). Not only was Tim a political analyst for NBC, but he was a successful writer of which he two best sellers. He was most notably remembered for the 2000 general elections where he wrote “Florida, Florida, Florida” on a white board. A few of his fellow NBC colleagues took the time to remember Mr. Russert. Longtime colleague Andrea Mitchell, broke down a couple times saying, “Our hearts are broken.”

Bob Schieffer, who was Tim’s competitor on the show “Meet The Press” said, “when you slipped one past ol’ Russert,” he said, “you felt as though you had hit a home run off the best pitcher in the league. I just loved Tim and I will miss him more than I can say.”

I am stunned myself at this tragedy. I actually saw him on tv just the night before and quite frankly it hasn’t really hit yet. As sad as this may be, there might be a greater outcome from such a deep and saddening tragedy. Hopefully, this will get men and woman alike to go and visit their doctors and get their heart checked up. Maybe one death can save thousands of other people, but with time we shall see.

I can’t go without reporting what the two presidential candidates had to say. During a campaign stop in Ohio, Senator Barack Obama said, “there wasn’t a better interviewer in television.”

Republican Senator John McCain also chimed in saying that Mr. Russet was the “pre-eminent journalist of his generation.”
